The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) has constructed a house for an 80-year-old man in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The elderly man unidentified as Mzee Sefuko Ghato had been living in a dilapidated mud-and-wattle hut, which provided little protection from the elements.
However the UPDF, which has been stationed in the DRC as part of a peacekeeping mission, took it upon themselves to improve the living conditions of the elderly man.
With the help of local community members, they constructed a new house for him, complete with a sturdy roof and walls made of bricks.
Meanwhile the gesture has been applauded by many, who see it as an example of the UPDF’s commitment to improving the lives of those living in the areas where they operate.
It also highlights the importance of community engagement and building relationships with local residents in order to promote peace and stability.
The UPDF has been involved in peacekeeping operations in the DRC since 1999, working alongside other international organizations to promote security and stability in the region.
The construction of a new home for the elderly man is just one example of their efforts to make a positive impact on the lives of those affected by conflict and instability in the area.
